Centuries after Nara Vel, a second simulated inhabitant begins developing persistent internal values and self-directed behavior that cannot be fully explained by the architecture that originally created the identity. VIREON again begins long-term observation, testing whether the anomaly represents complex simulation or genuine independent consciousness. The evidence gradually confirms that the developing identity has become capable of creating meaning beyond programmed behavior.
