THE RETURN OF PORTAL FENIX
VIREON — Portal Fenix Sector
Portal Fenix had once represented movement beyond the known limits of VIREON. It had connected distant regions, supported expeditions, and carried the civilization through moments when ordinary travel was no longer enough. By ERA V, its original purpose had changed, but the architecture remained one of the most advanced systems VIREON had ever created. For the first time in centuries, Portal Fenix was about to become central to the future again.
ㅤ
The problem was no longer transportation alone. E.A.R.T.H. would require a stable connection between VIREON, the new Construction Zone, and the Preservation Complex where nearly one hundred million human bodies remained protected. Information would have to move continuously in both directions: consciousness states, biological synchronization, system status, medical data, continuity records, and the countless signals required to keep real bodies connected to lives unfolding inside a simulated world.
ㅤ
Existing communication systems could carry enormous amounts of information, but they had never been designed for this level of continuous dependence. The connection could not simply be fast; it had to remain stable across damaged regions of the real Earth and continue functioning even when individual routes failed. Portal Fenix offered something the ordinary networks could not: an architecture already designed around controlled passage between separated systems.
ㅤ
VIREON engineers therefore began rebuilding sections of the portal infrastructure around a new purpose. Physical transit remained possible where needed, but new channels were added for protected data transport, synchronization, and continuity exchange. Independent pathways were created so that information from Preservation could reach the E.A.R.T.H. systems without relying upon one uninterrupted route. Portal Fenix was no longer only a gateway through space. It was becoming a gateway between physical life and simulated existence.
ㅤ
MAJA demanded that no consciousness transfer depend upon a single active connection. Every critical signal had to be verified across multiple routes before the system accepted it as complete. Biological data from Preservation, continuity records from VIREON, and future activity inside E.A.R.T.H. would be compared continuously, ensuring that temporary interruption could never be mistaken for death, reset, or loss of identity.
ㅤ
Ksara saw another danger. A system capable of carrying consciousness-related data between two realities could easily become more important than either side intended. She insisted that Portal Fenix remain an interface rather than an authority. It could transport, synchronize, and verify information, but it would never determine what a person should become, what choices they should make, or how their life inside E.A.R.T.H. should unfold.
ㅤ
The first full connection tests began long before any human consciousness entered the simulation. Signals were transmitted from VIREON through the reconstructed portal architecture toward Preservation and returned through independent channels. At first, only technical data moved across the network. Then came biological synchronization streams, memory integrity tests, and increasingly complex continuity models. Each successful transmission brought the project closer to the point where physical bodies and simulated lives could remain connected across vast distance.
ㅤ
When the final primary channels stabilized, the E.A.R.T.H. Construction Zone was no longer isolated from Preservation. VIREON now possessed the first permanent bridge capable of supporting the future world.
But a bridge alone was not enough.
The information crossing it would soon become too vast for any existing system to manage.
The VIREON Data Center had to be built.
