THE FIRST AWAKENING

THE FIRST AWAKENING

E.A.R.T.H. — 4400 A.F.

When the first permanent transfer began, E.A.R.T.H. was already alive around the people who were about to enter it. Cities functioned, transport moved, hospitals operated, rivers crossed inhabited regions, and simulated residents continued lives that had begun before any preserved human arrived. Inside Preservation, the biological bodies of the selected participants remained protected while their consciousnesses were connected to the new world through the architecture maintained by VIREON, the Data Center, Portal Fenix, and MAJA. For most future inhabitants, awakening would eventually feel like ordinary life continuing without interruption. But for the first two humans, the transition was deliberately different, because MAJA and Ksara chose to reveal the truth before E.A.R.T.H. became a secret from its own population.

ㅤ

The first arrivals were not simply placed into prepared homes and allowed to believe the simulated world was physical reality. They were given time to understand that their original bodies remained alive inside Preservation and that the world surrounding them was a constructed environment built to protect human continuity while the real Earth remained unsafe. MAJA explained the separation between biological existence and conscious experience, while Ksara showed them that E.A.R.T.H. was not intended to become a prison or replacement for humanity. They could walk through streets, touch objects, speak with others, experience weather, hunger, rest, affection, uncertainty, and time as naturally as they once had in the physical world. The simulation did not erase reality; it created a place where life could continue while reality remained inaccessible.

ㅤ

Their first days became one of the most closely observed periods in the entire project. MAJA monitored biological synchronization from Preservation while the Data Center tracked memory continuity, perception, emotional stability, environmental response, and the enormous number of small interactions required for ordinary existence. Neither participant was expected to behave according to a predetermined model. They were allowed to choose where to walk, what to ask, who to speak with, when to rest, and how quickly to accept what had happened to humanity. That freedom was itself part of the test, because E.A.R.T.H. could only succeed if people remained capable of surprising the system that sustained them.

ㅤ

The greatest uncertainty was not technical but emotional. Humanity had disappeared from the visible Earth thousands of years earlier, and the people inside Preservation had lost a world they had never consciously experienced ending. Telling the first arrivals everything at once meant confronting them with the collapse of their civilization, the existence of synthetic successors, the rise and fall of NEX, the survival of VIREON, and the fact that their own bodies now lay beneath a planet transformed beyond recognition. MAJA therefore allowed knowledge to arrive gradually, answering questions without forcing acceptance and permitting silence where explanation could no longer make the loss smaller. Ksara remained beside them not as a planetary intelligence or authority, but as someone whose own existence had also been shaped by humanity's disappearance. The first awakening became the moment E.A.R.T.H. proved it could contain truth without requiring obedience to it.

ㅤ

When the initial transfer remained stable, the meaning of the event extended far beyond the two people who had awakened first. Their consciousnesses remained continuous, their biological bodies remained safe, and the world around them continued functioning whether they observed it or not. For the first time since the end of the human era, living humans were again experiencing ordinary days, conversations, uncertainty, and choice inside a world designed to give them a future. The next activations would not include the same complete revelation; as the population grew, E.A.R.T.H. would need to become a civilization rather than an endless orientation process. But the first two would always remain different. Before humanity returned in millions, two people awakened knowing exactly where they were — and chose to begin living there anyway.
