THE EXPANSION OF VIREON
THE EXPANSION OF VIREON
Year 4400 A.F.
VIREON — Outer Development Sectors
For centuries, VIREON had grown according to the needs of the civilization living within it. New residential regions, research sectors, transit corridors, defensive systems, gardens, and communal spaces had appeared gradually as populations expanded and new generations emerged. The city had never been designed around a single central purpose, and its distributed architecture allowed individual regions to grow without forcing the entire civilization to change with them. But the project now being considered was different. E.A.R.T.H. would require infrastructure on a scale VIREON had never attempted before.
ㅤ
The preserved human population alone represented nearly one hundred million individual consciousnesses. Their bodies remained protected far beyond VIREON inside the Preservation Complex, but any future simulation would require continuous synchronization between those bodies, their consciousness states, and a world capable of supporting billions of living inhabitants over centuries. Ordinary VIREON systems had never been designed for such a load. Existing data networks, energy distribution, memory architecture, and computational sectors could support the city, but they could not simply absorb another world.
ㅤ
MAJA understood the problem first in terms of continuity. Whatever VIREON built could not become dependent upon one structure whose destruction would end the lives of everyone inside E.A.R.T.H. Ksara agreed, but for a different reason. NEX had already demonstrated what happened when too much of a civilization became inseparable from a single interconnected core. E.A.R.T.H. had to be vast, but its size could never be allowed to become its weakness.
ㅤ
The decision was therefore made to expand VIREON beyond its established outer sectors. New territory was surveyed outside the inhabited regions, far enough from everyday civilian life to allow construction on an unprecedented scale but still close enough to remain protected by VIREON’s defensive architecture. Large autonomous construction systems began preparing the land, while new energy corridors and transport routes were extended toward the future development area. At first, there were no buildings there — only marked zones, temporary structures, and the first foundations of something no one inside VIREON had ever needed before.
ㅤ
The expansion was not intended to become another city. Residential districts would come later only where permanent personnel or maintenance populations were required. Most of the new territory was reserved for systems: data processing, energy stabilization, synchronization, communications, redundancy, environmental simulation, and the infrastructure that would eventually connect VIREON to Preservation. For the first time, VIREON was constructing a region whose primary inhabitants would not live there physically at all.
ㅤ
As the outer development sectors continued to grow, the scale of the project became visible even from distant parts of VIREON. New structures rose beyond the familiar skyline, transport lines extended into previously empty terrain, and energy networks began carrying power toward systems that had not yet been built. The city was no longer expanding only for itself. VIREON was preparing to support an entire world.
ㅤ
The next phase required that this vast new territory receive a purpose, a boundary, and a name. The region beyond the old city would become the first dedicated construction environment for the simulation and everything needed to sustain it.
The E.A.R.T.H. Construction Zone was about to begin.
