THE E.A.R.T.H. CONSTRUCTION ZONE

VIREON — Outer Development Sectors

The territory beyond the established districts of VIREON was formally separated from the surrounding expansion and assigned a single purpose. It would not become another residential region, another research district, or another extension of the city’s existing infrastructure. Its systems, foundations, and energy architecture would be designed around one project alone. The E.A.R.T.H. Construction Zone had begun.

ㅤ

The first stage was not the construction of the simulation itself, but the creation of an environment capable of building it. Autonomous fabrication platforms were installed across the zone, followed by temporary energy stations, material processing systems, transport corridors, maintenance facilities, and large structural frames intended to support later infrastructure. Entire sections remained empty between them, reserved for systems whose final designs had not yet been completed. VIREON was deliberately building space for technologies that still existed only as plans.

ㅤ

The scale of the zone quickly exceeded anything previously constructed around the city. Individual facilities were separated by significant distances so that damage, overload, or system failure in one area could not spread automatically into another. Energy pathways were duplicated, communication routes followed multiple independent directions, and every critical structure was designed with isolation protocols from the beginning. The lessons of NEX remained present in almost every decision.

ㅤ

MAJA insisted that the future of one hundred million preserved humans could never depend upon a single uninterrupted chain. If one region failed, the others had to continue. If one connection to Preservation disappeared, another had to remain available. If a future Data Center suffered catastrophic damage, E.A.R.T.H. itself could not be allowed to collapse with it. Redundancy was therefore not added after construction. It became part of the physical geometry of the zone.

ㅤ

Ksara spent increasing amounts of time among the unfinished structures. To her, the construction represented something fundamentally different from the civilizations she had known before. NEX had expanded because it was becoming larger. VIREON had expanded because new people needed places to live. This region was being built for a population that would never walk through its corridors, see its towers, or know that the structures existed at all.

ㅤ

As construction continued, the zone was divided into increasingly specialized sectors. Some were reserved for future computational architecture, others for energy stabilization, long-term storage, continuity systems, planetary communications, and physical interfaces with Portal Fenix. Deep underground, protected conduits were installed before the structures above them even existed. Every major path pointed toward the same future requirement: E.A.R.T.H. would need to function continuously for centuries without depending upon constant reconstruction.

ㅤ

Yet one problem remained unresolved. The new zone could process enormous amounts of information once completed, but it still lacked a reliable connection between VIREON and the distant Preservation Complex. The preserved bodies remained protected far beyond the city, separated from the construction by regions of the damaged real Earth.

The answer already existed within VIREON.

It had once been created for another purpose.

Portal Fenix was about to return.
