AUTONOMOUS MAINTENANCE & REPAIR SYSTEM
Autonomous Maintenance & Repair System supported the continuous inspection, servicing, repair, and replacement of VIREON's physical infrastructure. The city had been created within a world already filled with damaged technology and unstable regions, making long-term maintenance one of the most important requirements for permanent settlement.
ㅤ
Structural surfaces, energy routes, communication links, transit corridors, environmental equipment, defensive components, and settlement infrastructure were monitored for deterioration and operational failure. Routine damage could be repaired locally before it developed into a larger problem, while more significant failures were reported to the surrounding network for coordinated response.
ㅤ
The system relied upon distributed maintenance capacity rather than one centralized reconstruction facility. Local regions retained the tools and technical resources necessary to perform basic repairs independently, allowing isolated settlements or defensive sectors to remain operational even when access to other parts of the city was temporarily unavailable.
ㅤ
When damage exceeded local capacity, surrounding systems could provide additional energy, materials, technical support, or alternative routes. Infrastructure that could not be safely restored immediately could remain isolated rather than forcing reconstruction under unstable conditions.
ㅤ
This was another deliberate departure from the scale of NEX. VIREON did not assume that everything lost could always be reconstructed immediately. Repair was treated as a continuous responsibility, while abandonment remained an acceptable choice when preserving a damaged structure would endanger the wider city.
