KSARA & MAJA: E.A.R.T.H.

CHAPTER XXX - THE DAILY REPORT

The daily report began as a temporary procedure during the activation period, when every change in population, infrastructure and synchronization required immediate attention from VIREON. Once the first year passed, several operators suggested reducing it to a weekly overview because E.A.R.T.H. had become stable enough that most days contained nothing requiring MAJA's direct involvement. She rejected the change without asking for greater access or more detailed surveillance. MAJA wanted one report every day for as long as humanity remained inside E.A.R.T.H. The world could become independent, but she would never allow its condition to become something VIREON remembered to check only when a problem appeared.

ㅤ

The report was intentionally short compared with the amount of information available to the Data Center. It contained total active population, projected growth, environmental stability, infrastructure pressure, medical system capacity, Preservation integrity, Portal Fenix synchronization, major security conditions and any anomaly that crossed established thresholds. It also summarized births, deaths and large demographic shifts as population-level statistics without exposing individual histories unless an actual technical emergency required identification. Private thoughts, personal relationships, political opinions and ordinary human conflicts were excluded from the report by design. MAJA wanted to know whether the world was safe, not what every person inside it was doing.

ㅤ

Most reports were uneventful. Population increased within expected limits, transport systems adapted to new settlements, weather remained inside normal environmental patterns and Preservation showed no instability beneath the real Earth. Human institutions solved thousands of problems every day without VIREON ever seeing more than their effect on system-level statistics, while local disputes appeared only if they threatened infrastructure large enough to cross an operational threshold. The absence of emergencies gradually became the most common result. For MAJA, an ordinary report was not empty information; it was evidence that humanity had lived another day without needing its guardians to intervene.

ㅤ

She read the report personally even though every significant event would have generated an immediate alert regardless of the daily summary. Operators could have filtered the information automatically, and the Data Center could have reduced the entire world to a single stability indicator, but MAJA refused that level of abstraction. She wanted to see that food production remained sufficient, that hospitals were not approaching critical load, that population movement had not isolated a region and that no unexplained pattern had appeared near a protected boundary. These were not decisions she intended to make for humanity. They were the conditions that allowed humanity to continue making decisions for itself.

ㅤ

Ksara rarely read the full daily report unless MAJA brought something unusual to her attention. Her primary responsibility remained the real Earth, where NULLIS still occupied regions VIREON could not safely reclaim and where every successful recovery attempt revealed how much of the planet remained unresolved. E.A.R.T.H. required vigilance, but NULLIS required concentration, and the division of responsibility between them developed naturally. MAJA watched the world humanity lived in; Ksara watched the world humanity still hoped to return to. Neither responsibility was more important, because the failure of either would destroy the purpose of the other.

ㅤ

The report also established clear boundaries for ordinary VIREON operators. They were authorized to maintain infrastructure, correct technical failures, balance computational load and respond to predefined security conditions, but they could not escalate a human disagreement merely because it created social instability. A strike, political protest, religious dispute or unpopular government decision did not become a VIREON problem unless it threatened the architecture sustaining the world itself. Civilization belonged to the inhabitants; continuity belonged to VIREON. Keeping those responsibilities separate became one of the most important operational rules of E.A.R.T.H.

ㅤ

Minor environmental events required no special authorization. Rain systems, seasonal storms, local flooding within natural limits, heat, cold and other ordinary processes could emerge through the planetary model without anyone in VIREON choosing when individual communities experienced them. Larger events were different because their consequences could affect millions of lives or alter population balance across entire regions. MAJA therefore insisted that no major corrective disaster would ever be triggered by a single guardian or operator. The greater the power to alter the world, the more people outside that world had to share responsibility for using it.

ㅤ

In the first years, the daily report still contained references to the original activation population because almost every adult inside E.A.R.T.H. remembered Preservation personally. MAJA understood that this would not remain true forever. Births were already changing the demographic structure, simulated families continued expanding and future generations would know the beginning only through records rather than memory. Over centuries, the same report would therefore describe a civilization increasingly detached from the circumstances that created it. MAJA intended to keep reading even after the people inside no longer remembered why anyone outside was watching.

ㅤ

One evening the report contained nothing unusual at all. Preservation was stable, Portal Fenix showed no contamination, the Data Center operated far below capacity, hospitals remained within normal limits and no major environmental intervention had been requested. The active population had grown slightly since the previous day, several new settlements had appeared outside the original territory and human infrastructure now supported more of the world than MAJA's prepared systems. She read the final line twice despite there being nothing in it that required action.

E.A.R.T.H. STATUS: STABLE.

ㅤ

MAJA closed the report and did nothing.

That became the purpose of the ritual.

Tomorrow she would read it again.
