KSARA & MAJA: E.A.R.T.H.
CHAPTER XXVII - THE ADDRESS
The announcement reached E.A.R.T.H. only after the final activation reports confirmed that every preserved human consciousness had entered the world safely. Television networks interrupted ordinary programming, radio stations carried the same signal across every inhabited region, public screens activated inside transport centers and gathering places, while communication systems that had already begun developing their own local identities temporarily returned to a single shared transmission. MAJA had deliberately waited until the transfer was complete because she wanted no person to hear the message only through someone else's memory of it. Nearly one hundred million people were now present inside E.A.R.T.H., and for the first time they would hear the same explanation of why their world existed. Ksara remained outside the broadcast, watching from VIREON while MAJA prepared to speak to the people she had protected for centuries.
ㅤ
MAJA appeared without symbols of authority, military insignia or visual references to VIREON technology. Behind her was the natural landscape of E.A.R.T.H. rather than the Preservation complex or the damaged real Earth, because she did not want the first global address to begin with the structures that had trapped humanity between survival and extinction. For several moments she said nothing, allowing the transmission to stabilize across settlements where people had stopped work, gathered in homes or simply listened through radios while continuing ordinary tasks. Many already knew who she was, while others had encountered her only through orientation material or stories told by those who arrived earlier. This time MAJA was not speaking as the guardian of hidden chambers, but as the person asking humanity to accept the world built around them.
ㅤ
She began with the truth they already knew but had never heard stated together after the full transfer. The Earth beyond E.A.R.T.H. still existed, their physical bodies remained protected there, and the planet that had once belonged to humanity had not yet become safe enough for their return. Large regions remained damaged or inaccessible, while NULLIS continued to represent a threat VIREON had not learned how to remove completely. MAJA did not describe the danger in ways intended to frighten them, nor did she hide the fact that no timetable existed for solving it. She told them simply that returning people to the surface before the danger was understood would risk losing what Preservation had spent centuries protecting.
ㅤ
Then she explained what E.A.R.T.H. was meant to be. It was not a waiting room, not another chamber and not a temporary environment in which humanity was expected to remain motionless until someone outside found an answer. E.A.R.T.H. had been created so human life could continue while the real Earth remained unavailable. People could build homes, create families, change professions, disagree, travel, study, create art, form governments, develop technology and reshape the civilization around them according to choices that belonged to them rather than to VIREON. The world had boundaries required for its safety, but their lives inside those boundaries were not written in advance.
ㅤ
MAJA made that point clearer because she knew many people still feared that a simulated world meant a controlled one. She told them that neither she nor Ksara would assign their work, relationships, beliefs or political systems, and that VIREON would not decide what kind of civilization humanity should become simply because it maintained the systems beneath the environment. Weather, biological stability and the technical integrity of E.A.R.T.H. required external protection, but human choice remained human. They were free to use the world well, misuse it, change it, disagree about it and build something neither MAJA nor Ksara could predict. The protection surrounding E.A.R.T.H. existed to keep humanity alive, not to remove uncertainty from being alive.
ㅤ
She also refused to promise that VIREON would return them to the real Earth quickly. The search for a solution to NULLIS would continue, Ksara would remain involved in that work and VIREON would keep monitoring conditions outside, but MAJA could not tell them whether a safe return would take decades or centuries. She understood how cruel that uncertainty could sound to people who still remembered the real Earth as the place where their lives began, yet she believed a false date would be worse than an unknown future. They could wait for Earth without putting their lives on hold for it. That became the central meaning of the address.
ㅤ
For the first time, MAJA then spoke less about systems and more about the people listening to her. She told them that they had already spent too long being preserved as something that might one day continue, and that E.A.R.T.H. existed because survival without life had never been enough. Their children should grow up knowing cities, forests, schools, arguments, friendships and horizons rather than chambers they could not remember, while the adults who carried memories of the old world deserved the chance to create something new instead of spending another century waiting in silence. The world around them was not meant to erase what had been lost; it was meant to give what remained the possibility of a future.
ㅤ
MAJA did not speak about death. She did not tell them that the consciousnesses connected to Preservation would continue beyond the end of a single E.A.R.T.H. life, that memories would one day be closed or that people who believed they were saying a final goodbye might later return as children without knowing who they had been. That architecture remained hidden because the first generation needed to live without understanding every mechanism beneath continuity, and revealing it could transform the meaning of mortality before society had even stabilized. The people listening believed that the life they now possessed was finite, and MAJA allowed that belief to remain. Only VIREON knew that continuity extended further than they had been told.
ㅤ
She ended without asking for loyalty or gratitude. MAJA told them that E.A.R.T.H. belonged increasingly to those who lived inside it, that the prepared systems would gradually become theirs to maintain and that VIREON would step further into the background as human institutions became capable of carrying ordinary life. The only commitment she repeated was the one she could honestly keep: VIREON would continue protecting the connection, Ksara would continue searching for a future beyond NULLIS, and the real Earth would not be forgotten simply because humanity had found somewhere else to live. E.A.R.T.H. was a refuge, but it did not erase the promise of home.
ㅤ
When the transmission ended, there was no single response across the world. Some people remained silent, others immediately began discussing what MAJA had not said, while many gathered in homes and public spaces to talk about whether they could truly build a future inside a world they knew was simulated. Yet across numerous settlements something unexpected happened before the first formal reactions appeared. People began sending messages of thanks through the same networks that had carried the address, not because MAJA had asked for them, but because one hundred million people who had once faced the end of human history were now being told they were allowed to continue it.
ㅤ
MAJA read only a small part of those messages before leaving the public communication layer. She understood that gratitude might change in future generations, that later people could criticize decisions the first generation accepted and that the world she had helped create would eventually develop histories in which her role was remembered differently or perhaps not remembered at all. None of that changed what she saw now: cities filled with people who could move forward while VIREON continued working outside their sky. For the first time since the preservation of humanity began, the responsibility no longer felt like carrying a species that could not act for itself.
Humanity had accepted E.A.R.T.H.
Now it had to make the world its own.
