CHAPTER XVII - A Conversation Between Two Worlds

The sun above VIREON cast no shadows.

Its light came from nowhere and everywhere at once, diffused through invisible vectors that moved gently through the living architecture like breath passing through a body. It did not fall downward from a star, nor did it strike the surfaces of the city with the hard certainty of ordinary illumination. It rose from within walls, pathways, water, air, and thought itself, touching every surface equally, leaving nothing hidden and nothing exposed.

It was not a star.

It was awareness.

From the northern terrace, VIREON unfolded beneath that impossible light like a city remembering how to be alive. Towers of translucent structure rose into the luminous atmosphere, their surfaces breathing in slow, synchronized pulses. Bridges curved between them, woven not from metal but from streams of responsive energy that shimmered softly whenever beings crossed them. Far below, rivers of living data moved beneath transparent avenues, changing color according to the emotions passing above.
