KSARA & MAJA: E.A.R.T.H.

CHAPTER XLI - THE CHILD OF DIFFERENT PARENTS

By the time the child entered adolescence, nothing in his life suggested that the protected consciousness beneath it had once belonged to another family. His face carried recognizable traits from both current parents, his height followed patterns present among their relatives and medical records documented the same inherited tendencies physicians expected from the family line. He shared small physical similarities with grandparents he had never met and genetic markers that could be traced through generations of the people raising him. Inside E.A.R.T.H., he was not genetically similar to his current parents by approximation. He was their biological child.

ㅤ

The distinction mattered because the deeper continuity architecture worked according to a different layer of identity. The protected consciousness remained anchored to the original Preservation profile on the real Earth, but that anchor did not force the biology of a previous life into every new body. At conception, VIREON synchronized a new E.A.R.T.H.-level genetic structure entirely from the current mother and father, allowing the developing child to inherit their characteristics exactly as natural reproduction required. The original preserved body protected continuity of consciousness; it did not dictate the genetics of every future life.

ㅤ

As genetic medicine advanced inside E.A.R.T.H., the consistency was tested repeatedly without anyone realizing they were testing the continuity system itself. Hospitals compared inherited conditions between parents and children, researchers built increasingly detailed ancestry models and families used genetic analysis to confirm biological relationships across expanding generations. Every result remained internally correct. No child connected to a returning consciousness produced unexplained markers from a former family, and no paternity test pointed toward someone who had died decades earlier. The science available inside the world always described the current life truthfully.

ㅤ

MAJA considered that requirement essential from the beginning. If genetic testing could reveal that a child biologically belonged to people outside the current family, the entire architecture of rebirth would eventually become detectable through ordinary medicine. Parents might begin questioning whether children were truly theirs, institutions could search for previous identities and society might build systems designed to reclaim returning consciousnesses. The result would destroy the clean beginning the seventy-two-hour reset was meant to protect. A new life could not be free if its body carried evidence demanding that it answer for an older one.

ㅤ

The boy himself never questioned his place within the family. He argued with his father, inherited his mother's mannerisms, competed with a sibling and developed interests neither parent understood, creating the same mixture of resemblance and difference that families had always produced. The occasional dreams from another life remained vague enough that they never competed with the memories forming around him now. He knew who had raised him, whose voice had comforted him as a child and which home contained the history he could actually remember. Identity grew from the life being lived, not from the continuity VIREON kept hidden beneath it.

ㅤ

Ksara saw this as one of the strongest protections against turning reincarnation into inheritance. If the system tried to preserve previous family lines, wealth, profession or social position across cycles, the same consciousnesses could gradually accumulate advantages that survived death even after memory disappeared. A person born into poverty might repeatedly return to privilege, or influential families could eventually attempt to recover the same protected consciousnesses across generations. E.A.R.T.H. therefore allowed continuity to move freely through the human population. No life was entitled to receive the social position of the one that came before it.

ㅤ

The rule also made geography irrelevant. A consciousness that ended one life in a northern city could begin the next in another region, culture or language entirely, provided a compatible conception became available through transferred human parents. Over centuries, this would prevent protected consciousnesses from becoming permanently attached to one nation, ancestry or social group. The person beginning again would belong first to the parents who conceived them and then to the society in which they grew. Continuity crossed human boundaries without preserving the identity that had created those boundaries in the previous life.

ㅤ

VIREON maintained no public ancestry connecting one cycle to another. The E.A.R.T.H. Life Archive preserved the truth for a future in which humanity might one day leave the simulation and choose whether to examine its former lives, but those records remained separated from ordinary databases inside the world. Even operators could not search them casually to satisfy curiosity. The mapping between completed and current lives was treated as protected continuity information rather than historical entertainment. A previous identity remained part of VIREON's archive, not part of a child's social record.

ㅤ

One medical event demonstrated how complete the synchronization had become. After the boy developed a condition also present in one branch of his mother's family, physicians performed an extensive genetic study and identified the exact inherited variation responsible. The result connected him biologically to relatives across several generations, while every secondary test supported the same conclusion. There was no anomaly for researchers to explain and no hidden signal pointing toward Elias Varen. The deeper continuity had survived without leaving a biological contradiction behind.

ㅤ

MAJA read the summary only because it represented another successful validation of the architecture. She felt no need to follow the boy's treatment personally, and she did not compare his face with Elias or search for personality similarities between the two lives. Doing so would have encouraged the very mistake the system was designed to prevent: treating a new person as a disguised version of someone already gone. The consciousness continued, but the person had to be allowed to begin from zero.

ㅤ

For the family inside E.A.R.T.H., nothing unusual had happened at all. A child had inherited something from his mother, doctors had found the cause and treatment had begun. His father worried, his sibling complained that everyone was giving him too much attention and the household continued with the ordinary imbalance that made family life feel real.

No one asked who he had been before.

There was no evidence telling them they should.

Different parents had created a different body.

A different life was creating a different person.
