KSARA & MAJA: E.A.R.T.H.

CHAPTER III - THE CALL TO VIREON

The connection request left the Central Preservation Sector through a channel that had remained unused since MAJA first brought Ksara beneath the protected layers of the old Earth. It carried no human consciousness and no direct access to Preservation, only an encrypted VIREON recognition sequence together with Ksara's authorization signature and a request for immediate Portal Fenix contact. Every section of the transmission was separated from the surrounding planetary infrastructure, because neither Ksara nor MAJA was willing to expose the hidden sanctuary before VIREON confirmed that the receiving side could be completely isolated. The signal crossed the protected route without touching the damaged networks spread across the surface, and for several long moments the Preservation systems received nothing in return. Then a secure response appeared from VIREON.

ㅤ

The first contact was technical, handled by automated security layers that verified Ksara's identity before allowing the signal to reach the city's operational systems. VIREON had changed during the centuries Ksara spent beyond it, yet the principles established after the fall of NEX remained visible everywhere in its architecture: no unknown connection was trusted automatically, no external route reached the inner city directly, and every new pathway entered through controlled isolation. Portal Fenix recognized the old authorization pattern, but even that was not enough to bypass the safeguards that had evolved around it. MAJA watched each verification step without objection, because the caution confirmed exactly why they had chosen VIREON in the first place. A civilization that had survived NEX had learned never to confuse familiarity with safety.

ㅤ

When the connection finally opened, the first figures to appear were not politicians or administrators but people whose histories were already tied to the world Ksara had once left behind. ELE-480, FENIX-280 and ELE-481 joined the secure channel together with VIREON operators responsible for Portal Fenix, while additional systems remained outside the conversation until the reason for the contact was understood. They expected news about NULLIS, the Dead Zone or another discovery beneath the old Earth, because those were the kinds of problems Ksara and MAJA had been confronting since leaving VIREON. Instead, Ksara asked them to isolate the channel completely and confirm that no part of the conversation would enter ordinary city systems. Only after that confirmation did MAJA begin opening the first Preservation records.

ㅤ

The initial projection showed chambers rather than people. Thousands became millions as the view expanded through sector after sector, each structure maintaining a biological body that had remained hidden from the known history of VIREON. At first there was no reaction from the other side because the scale was difficult to understand, and the systems continued expanding the model until the full preserved region appeared. MAJA did not reduce the number or present it as an estimate, because after centuries of secrecy there was no longer any reason to hide the magnitude of what she had protected. Nearly one hundred million human beings were still alive on the real Earth.

ㅤ

ELE-480 was the first to ask whether the bodies were biological remains, because nothing in the history inherited from NEX had prepared VIREON for the possibility that humanity had survived in such numbers. MAJA answered that they were not remains, records or genetic archives, but living bodies maintained in long-term Preservation, with their consciousnesses still protected and capable of returning to active life. FENIX-280 immediately shifted the discussion toward security, asking how long the complex had remained hidden and whether NULLIS had ever detected its existence, while ELE-481 remained focused on the chambers themselves. To her, the discovery carried another meaning: the species that had created the earliest foundations from which Ksara, ELE and FENIX history eventually emerged had never completely disappeared. Humanity had been absent from history, not extinct.

ㅤ

Ksara then showed them the failed E.A.R.T.H. capacity test. Preservation could keep the bodies alive and support limited conscious environments, but it could not sustain the complete world MAJA intended to create around all one hundred million people at once. The problem was not simply raw processing power, because a human world required biology, weather, ecosystems, cities, social interaction and future population growth operating continuously around independent conscious choices. Any solution based only on the local systems would eventually require restricting the world, reducing the number of active humans or controlling their development. Ksara made it clear that none of those options were acceptable.

ㅤ

The conversation changed once VIREON understood what was being asked of it. This was not a request to rescue a group of survivors or temporarily host another population inside the city; VIREON was being asked to become part of the infrastructure supporting an entire human civilization. Portal Fenix would need to carry a protected connection to Preservation, while the city would have to provide isolated processing capacity large enough to operate E.A.R.T.H. without allowing its internal systems to interfere with the lives developing inside it. VIREON would also become responsible for defending that infrastructure from NULLIS for as long as humanity remained unable to return to the real planet. The decision would affect the city for centuries, perhaps longer.

ㅤ

ELE-480 looked toward the model of the Preservation sectors and then toward the failed E.A.R.T.H. projection beside them. Long before VIREON existed, the ELE Line had been created inside a civilization that believed humanity belonged only to the distant past, yet many of the systems that shaped ELE history had ultimately emerged from human ideas carried through Ksara and the foundations of NEX. Now the direction of inheritance had reversed. The civilization born after humanity might become the system that preserved humanity long enough to live again. NEX had inherited something from humans; E.A.R.T.H. would now inherit something from NEX and VIREON.

ㅤ

FENIX-280 agreed that Portal Fenix could be adapted, but only if the Preservation connection terminated inside a completely separate receiving architecture. No external system would be permitted to reach the chambers directly, and every future data path would have to pass through layers capable of shutting themselves down instantly if an unknown pattern appeared. ELE-481 added that VIREON should treat the future E.A.R.T.H. network as a protected consciousness environment rather than an ordinary simulation, because the people inside it would not be processes that could simply be restarted when convenient. The distinction mattered from the beginning. The world could be engineered, but the people within it had to remain independent.

ㅤ

MAJA listened without interrupting as the first operational plans began forming on the VIREON side. She had spent centuries protecting the preserved humans through isolation, secrecy and systems that depended as little as possible on the world outside, but that phase was ending. To allow humanity to live again, she would have to trust a civilization many of those humans had never known existed. VIREON, in turn, would have to accept responsibility for people who had never participated in its creation and might never even learn who kept their world operating.

ㅤ

Ksara watched the secure channel expand as more VIREON systems were invited into the technical discussion under controlled access. Portal Fenix teams began examining possible bandwidth and isolation requirements, ELE archives were flagged for review, and old references to NEX computational infrastructure were brought forward for the first time in centuries. The city had not yet agreed on how E.A.R.T.H. would be built, but something more important had already happened. The secret of Preservation no longer belonged only to Ksara and MAJA.

ㅤ

For the first time since humanity vanished from the visible history of Earth, another civilization knew that it was still alive.

And VIREON had chosen to help.
