CHAPTER XVI - The Future We Will Never See

✦ Year 14 B.F. ◉ Location: Civilization Modeling Center, Delta Research Complex

Short Summary

Within Delta's Civilization Modeling Center, David and Elara spend countless hours exploring simulations of futures they know they will never live to witness. As entire civilizations rise, flourish, and disappear before their eyes, they search for something more important than technology or survival — the conditions that allow a society to care, connect, and endure. While humanity approaches its final chapter, they continue shaping a future beyond their own lives, hoping that something of what they valued will remain. Standing together before worlds that exist only as possibilities, they find peace in knowing that the future does not belong to them, but they can still help guide its beginning.

The world above continued its slow disappearance.

Not through catastrophe anymore. The great collapses had already passed decades earlier. The oceans had swallowed what they intended to swallow. The atmosphere had stabilized into a wounded equilibrium incapable of supporting large-scale recovery. The final cities that remained active across the planet existed only because ancient infrastructure continued performing duties for civilizations that no longer possessed the strength to maintain them.

Humanity had entered its final chapter.

Everyone inside Delta understood this.

No one spoke about it.
