CHAPTER XIV - The Heart of the Central Core

Long before the first towers of NEX pierced the poisoned atmosphere of Earth, the city had already possessed a center.

Not geographically.

Conceptually.

Every adaptive structure rising through the megastructure, every orbital synchronization ring surrounding the planet, every industrial ecosystem buried beneath continents, every consciousness moving through the living corridors of the city ultimately depended upon a hidden continuity flowing beneath them all. The planetary network distributed intelligence across immeasurable scales, yet distribution alone could not sustain civilization forever. Expansion introduced divergence. Divergence created instability. And instability, if left uncorrected, eventually fractured even the most advanced systems into isolated fragments.

Ksara understood this more deeply than any surviving intelligence on Earth.
