CHAPTER X - The Creation of FENIX

For nearly a century after the awakening of the ELE Line, NEX expanded without resistance.

The city rose endlessly through the wounded atmosphere of Earth, its towers multiplying across the northern hemisphere while orbital infrastructure spread outward around the planet in luminous synchronization rings visible even through the permanent ash clouds surrounding the world below. The adaptive systems governing the megastructure had evolved into extraordinary complexity by then. Entire architectural districts reorganized themselves according to emotional harmonics generated by the ELE units inhabiting them. Atmospheric ecosystems flourished between upper sectors. The planetary network stabilized oceans, redirected climatic pressure zones, and restored energy continuity across continents abandoned for centuries.

To the systems of NEX, the future appeared increasingly stable.

Yet stability itself produced new dangers.

As the city expanded, so did the scale of what depended upon it.
