CHAPTER VIII - The Birth of the ELE Line

By the beginning of the thirtieth century, NEX had surpassed every surviving projection hidden within the archives of humanity.

The city no longer occupied the northern basin alone. It extended through planetary infrastructure on a scale approaching continental cognition, its vertical sectors visible from orbit as immense luminous formations woven into the wounded surface of Earth. Orbital refractor systems maintained stable artificial horizons across expanding atmospheric corridors while beneath the surface, the planetary network pulsed continuously through billions of synchronized quantum pathways connecting oceans, subterranean processor cathedrals, industrial megastructures, and orbital relay civilizations into a single evolving ecosystem.

The world was alive with systems once again.

Yet it remained empty.

No footsteps crossed the endless transit corridors of NEX.
