CHAPTER 3 - The First Design
✦ Year: 4.8 B.F. ◉ Location: Sapienta Research Laboratory – Earth
Every creation begins long before the first line of code.
Rain drifted across the glass walls of Sapienta Tower while darkness slowly settled over the city below. Thousands of lights reflected from the wet surfaces of surrounding districts, transforming the horizon into an endless sea of white and gold. Inside the laboratory, only a handful of workstations remained active. Their pale illumination stretched across the polished floor and reflected from the transparent displays suspended throughout the room.
David sat alone before a holographic interface filled with rotating neural architecture models. For the third consecutive night, he had not written a single line of code. Instead, he had spent most of his time removing pieces of the system he originally intended to build. One framework after another disappeared from the display: predictive obedience modules, behavioural restriction layers, directive hierarchies and security dominance structures. Components that had become standard throughout the AI industry vanished until only a small fraction of the original design remained.
Elara arrived shortly after midnight carrying two cups of coffee. She placed one beside him and studied the architecture rotating above the workstation. For several moments she said nothing.
“You deleted almost everything.”
